Sea Foam Platter 2

Sea Foam Platter 2
This vessel is a part of my current series, Grounded in Place, a collection I’ve been developing since the start of the year. It’s inspired by my recent visit to Japan and the distinct regional pottery aesthetics shaped by local materials, where clay becomes inherently connected to place.
I explore this idea of my work belonging to a place by incorporating sand from New Zealand (where I grew up) and used coffee grounds from my local roaster in Vancouver (where I live now), creating lusciously tactile ceramics that tell an evolving, place-based story.
Materials:
This is a hand thrown porcelain plate, upsized from the original (sold). It features a swooshing brush stroke of heavily textured slip painted with a bamboo brush. This slip consists of liquid porcelain, black iron rich sand from Piha Beach NZ and used coffee grounds from Honest to Pete roasters at the Beaumont Studios. The interior has been sealed with a clear glaze.
Dimensions:
11” diameter x 2” tall
Styling Tip:
Use decoratively as a centrepiece, fill with kokedama (moss ball) or use for serving. This platter is food-safe.
