What you can expect

MiMOKO’s three day workshops cover all the steps required to make a successful ceramic vessel.

Session 1 - Throwing. The muddy session, creating your piece on the wheel.

Session 2 - Trimming. Cleaning up your piece with ribbon tools when it has become leather hard.

Session 3 - Glazing. Coating your piece with a glaze colour of your choice.

See calendars below for specific class dates.

Small two person classes ensure you get a great one on one experience!

Before you begin your workshop we discuss the items you wish to make (cups, bowls, plates, planters, moon jars, ring holders, lidded items, etc. depending on your skill level)

Your finished work (2-4 items) will be ready to pick up approximately one week after your final session.

new opportunity to book as a pair

We now have two wheels in the studio so book alongside your friend, partner, sibling, mother or whoever and turn this workshop into an even more memorable experience!

Two students are booked for every class.

For those that have some prior experience

I can tailor your workshop to help you perfect a certain technique. Having trouble centering? Shaping? Making larger, tall or narrow forms? Let me know and we can organise either a complete throwing/trimming/glazing workshop, or three days concentrating purely on throwing.

This intensive approach will allow you to reflect on your new technique and return again to refine the movements.

please make sure you wear

Comfortable clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty (don’t worry, everything washes out). Please also trim your nails and remove any rings or bracelets prior to your first throwing session.

Location

The classes take place in my studio at The Beaumont, 326 West 5th Avenue, Vancouver. We are inside the building with the large red mural. There is ample parking all along West 5th Ave.

Cancellation

Please cancel your class 14 days before it begins in order to get a full refund. This allows us enough time to rebook your session. Cancellations made within 14 days of your start date are subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

A testimonial from Aiko:

First of all, thank you Monique for such a wonderful experience! I received a voucher to the workshop as a gift and from that day, I was super excited to try pottery for the first time in my life. Monique gave us some tips for the workshop ahead of time such as to have nails cut etc. and that was helpful.

In her bright and beautiful studio, she welcomed us in. She was very friendly, charming and knowledgable. She showed us how to do each step. Two of us then followed her instructions one by one. As we made our pieces, she guided us and taught us along the way. Even though it was my first time, her instruction was excellent and it made the whole process seamless and fun! I also enjoyed talking and laughing with her and it was simply a wonderful quality time.

I had some ideas of what I wanted to make. So I had sent her some pictures prior to the workshop. She was open to my ideas and helped me create what I was imagining, which I am very happy about!

A few weeks later, I received the pieces. They are so pretty. I love them all and am using them everyday!

I would recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to try out pottery, loves working with their hands, wants to enjoy this meditative fun activity and is looking to have a wonderful quality time as well as their own unique pieces!

Thanks again, Monique!
