This vessel is a part of my current series, Grounded in Place, a collection I’ve been developing since the start of the year. It’s inspired by my recent visit to Japan and the distinct regional pottery aesthetics shaped by local materials, where clay becomes inherently connected to place.

I explore this idea of my work belonging to a place by incorporating sand from New Zealand (where I grew up) and used coffee grounds from my local roaster in Vancouver (where I live now), creating lusciously tactile ceramics that tell an evolving, place-based story.

Materials:
Porcelain incorporated with black, iron rich sand from Piha Beach NZ, used coffee grounds from Honest to Pete roasters at the Beaumont Studios and grog. The interior has been coated with a layer of white slip and sealed with a clear glaze. Includes a wooden ball accent piece.
