Bringing a little piece of New Zealand to your home, this vase is hand painted with a swirl of iron rich, black sand from one of my favourite destinations growing up, Piha Beach.

Situated on the wild, west coast of the north island of NZ, Piha is renowned as one of the most dangerous surf beaches in the country. But its rugged beauty also makes it one of the most spectacular. We spent many summers days here as kids running across the hot, superfine sand and jumping into the effervescent water. The strong undercurrents and unpredictable rips taught us the true importance of respecting Mother Nature, teetering between true excitement and fear. This raw energy is what I hope to capture in this little series of hand thrown work.

Materials:
This is a hand thrown porcelain vessel painted with a heavily textured slip during the leather hard phase. This texture rich slip consists of liquid porcelain, black sand from Piha Beach NZ and used coffee grounds from Honest to Pete roasters - my neighbours at the Beaumont Studios. The interior has been sealed with a clear glaze.

Styling Tip:
A show-stopper bouquet of dried flowers really accentuates the tones of the sand patterning. If styling with fresh flowers, we recommend selecting deep jewel tones and dark greens to offset the striking vase.
