Beachcomber Vase

Beachcomber Vase

CA$105.00

This vessel is a part of my new series, Grounded in Place, a collection I’ve been developing since the start of the year. It’s inspired by my recent visit to Japan and the distinct regional pottery aesthetics shaped by local materials, where clay becomes inherently connected to place.

In my new work I explore this idea of belonging by incorporating sand from New Zealand (where I grew up) and used coffee grounds from my local roaster in Vancouver (where I live now), creating lusciously tactile ceramics that tell an evolving, place-based story.

Materials:
This is a hand thrown porcelain vessel painted with a heavily textured slip during the leather hard phase. The slip consists of liquid porcelain, black iron rich sand from Piha Beach NZ and used coffee grounds from Honest to Pete roasters at the Beaumont Studios. The interior has been sealed with a clear glaze.

Dimensions:
4.5” diameter x 4.5” tall
1.5” opening

Styling Tip:
A bouquet of dried flowers really accentuates the tones of the sand patterning. If styling with fresh flowers, we recommend selecting deep jewel tones and dark greens to offset the striking vase.
